Sheldon Brown has died. He was best known for writing about bicycles on the Internet. Whether you were a beginner just starting out, or a mechanic searching for details on an older bicycle, or you just wanted to learn more about tire sizes, Sheldon had something for you.

I met Sheldon at the 2005 Bentride, where he was the keynote speaker. He gave a thought provoking talk about the challenges facing recumbent bicycle designers. In line for breakfast the next morning, he gladly answered my questions about minor details. In person he was much like he appeared online: generous, funny, and insightful.

(Drumbent and Bryan Ball also wrote obituaries.)
